Resumen
Antecedentes: Los pacientes hospitalizados en la unidad de recién nacidos están expuestos a manipulaciones y procedimientos médicos que pueden ocasionar dolor (así este no sea evidente), estrés y alteración de la vigilia, siendo los pretérmino un grupo vulnerable. No recibir un tratamiento adecuado o en forma oportuna, así como estar bajo la presencia de dolor, ocasiona cambios metabólicos y sistémicos relacionados con la liberación de hormonas asociadas con el estrés, llevando a ser más susceptibles a las infecciones por baja respuesta del sistema inmunológico. Metodología: búsqueda sistemática en bases de datos OVID, MDConsult, HINARI, PUBMED, THE COCHRANE LIBRARY, UPTODATE y EMBASE, con términos Mesh en diferentes combinaciones, así como términos DeCS. Se revisaron artículos en inglés y español que no tuvieran más de diez años de publicados. En algunos se realizó búsqueda en bola de nieve. Conclusiones: existen medidas farmacológicas o no con evidencia para el manejo del dolor en procedimientos que se llevan a cabo en la unidad de cuidado intensivo neonatal; se deben poner en práctica y utilizar escalas que evalúen de una manera adecuada la presencia del dolor en el neonato. Abreviaturas: RN, recién nacido (s); UCIN, unidad de cuidado intensivo neonatal.
