Growth factor receptor-bound protein 7 (GRB7) in breast cancer
La proteína 7 unida al receptor del factor de crecimiento (GRB7) en cáncer de mama
Show authors biography
Breast cancer should be recognized as a public health problem since it is the leading cause of death among women worldwide. It is known to be a multifactorial and heterogenous disease. Each tumor has its particular genetic and molecular features, which are reflected by clinical behavior, response to treatment and prognosis. Growth factor receptor-bound protein 7 (GRB7) belongs to the GRB family proteins that modulate the interaction between receptor tyrosine kinases and effector proteins in some signaling pathways involved in signal transduction, cell migration and angiogenesis. This protein is encoded by the GRB7 gene located on chromosome 17 at the 17q11–21 locus, near to the ERBB2 gene, suggesting coamplification and coexpression of these two genes in carcinogenesis. GRB7 protein was found to be related to the implicit molecular biology of breast cancer, and plays a role in cell proliferation and migration, thus, facilitates invasion and potential metastasis. It is considered to be a poor prognosis factor in this disease.
