Impatible lesions of the breast: Mammographic localization and biopsy. Analysis of 164 abnormalities

Mammography-guided biopsy of occult breast lesions is a useful tool for the early diagnosis of cancer and premalignant lesions. In this review of 164 patients with non-palpable lesions detected by this procedure over a period of two years, who underwent harpoon marking and surgical resection, malignancy was diagnosed in 42 patients (25.6%), thirteen of them with carcinoma. in situ (7.9%) and 29 infiltrative (17.6%). The most frequent benign diagnosis in this series was fibroadenoma, followed by other common benign pathologies. The mammographic categorization according to the BI-RADS system shows a good correlation with the definitive histopathological diagnosis, showing similar results to other similar studies. Because of these findings, we can recommend this early diagnosis technique in our environment for non-palpable breast lesions detected with mammography.
