It is a study conducted to determine if there is any type of interaction between intestinal parasitism and the absorption of anticonvulsant drugs (AC). We included patients who received CA (phenytoin, carbamazepine or valproic acid) and who also had intestinal parasitism documented through serial coprological examinations by concentration. The intraindividual variation of the CA levels before and after the specific deworming according to the microorganism was measured to these patients. Ten patients parasitized with different microorganisms (Entamoeba histolitica, Blastocvstis hominis and Endolimax nana) participated. When 60% of them were dewormed, they increased serum levels of CA, this increase being the same for carbamazepine (66%) and phenytoin (66%). Abbreviations: AC, anticonvulsants; PI, intestinal parasites.
