It is estimated that the incidence of Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (CJD) is about one case per million inhabitants and although it is rare in those who suffer catastrophic consequences, with signs that usually start as a demential picture progressive and irreversible that inevitably results in death. There is no specific treatment and the diagnosis despite the great scientific advances is still puzzling, since the performance of the available tests is not the best. Perhaps it is the anatomopathological study that establishes the diagnosis, but disposable instruments are required that condition important costs to the health services, in addition to the high risk of infection to the medical personnel involved in the procedure. Abbreviations: CJD, Creutzfeldt Jakob disease; NMR, nuclear, magnetic resonance; VTM, videotelemetry.
