Hemophilia, a congenital disease of low prevalence in the general population, is classified into types A and B according to its deficiency either of factor VIII or IX of coagulation. For more than 40 years there have been plasma preparations of each of the factors and we currently have recombinant derivatives. Patients who require surgical interventions are a challenge for different management groups, because the standard criteria for defining the response to therapy is not clear. This extended review of the literature was carried out in order to evaluate the response criteria in the different publications. In the main medical databases, 61 articles were collected and tabulated after applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, finding that multiple studies applied different parameters to evaluate bleeding such as levels of coagulation factor, thromboelastography, generation time of thrombin, surgical reintervention, duration of hospitalization and evaluation of pain, with which we conclude that there is heterogeneity in the parameters applied by the authors in relation to the main and secondary objectives of our review.
