Introduction: skin cancer represents a public health problem that can be prevented and managed successfully with early diagnosis. Objective: to describe the clinical, histopathological, population and surgical characteristics of skin cancer treated by surgery at the Hospital de San José in Bogotá DC, from January 2009 to December 2010. Material and methods: descriptive and retrospective study of two-year cases Confirmed of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma in situ. Results: Out of 294 reviewed clinical histories, one hundred were taken with a diagnosis of skin cancer that met the inclusion criteria: 84 patients (84%) with basal cell carcinoma, thirteen (13%) with squamous cell carcinoma and three (3%) with melanoma in if you. Conclusion: with this work we present the norms of the surgical management of patients with skin cancer in a general hospital.
