Abstract

Introduction: Surgical procedures cancellation may be caused by incomplete pre anesthetic evaluation. There is no research evaluating this scenario in Colombia. Objective: Describe cancellation causes for elective surgery while analyzing its association with pre anesthetic evaluation for one month at San Jose Hospital in Bogota. Materials and Methods: Cross sectional study describing cancellation frequencies and pre anesthetic associated variables. Results: Eight hundred and forty eight clinical charts were reviewed. Fifty nine percent were female. Mean age was 46.3±18.8 and 45.3±21.4 years for women and men respectively. 46.3% and 45.9% were classified ASA I and ASA II respectively. Cancellation incidence was 5.9%, 18% were from anesthetic causes. Conclusion: Cancellation rate is low and it is not associated with anesthetic causes or pre anesthetic evaluation deficiencies.
