Abstract

Intestinal ileus is a frequent manifestation that is associated with most of the abdominal and, in some cases, thoracic and pelvic conditions. As such, it is not a nosological entity but rather a sign within the particular spectrum present. It is essential, therefore, to have a broad knowledge about this entity and its recognition. The simple radiology of abdomen is one of the main weapons in the confirmation of the different types of intestinal ileus; in fact, as an initial study, it constitutes the procedure of first choice and is mandatory.
