Abstract

This research describes the meaning of quality of life and the way in which work in renal units affects a group of nursing professionals. In addition, he determined personal, family, work, social, economic, emotional and emotional conditions, and provides elements to enrich future quality of life work in nursing professionals. The methodology used was qualitative-quantitative with a transversal descriptive design. The sample consisted of 28 nurses from 14 renal units in Bogotá who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research, after the coordinators agreed to carry out the study. As background and reference of the work, the study of quality of life in doctors and general dentists in Santafé de Bogotá 1998-1999 was taken into account. The results showed a majority female population, young, married, with one to two children, in contract modality with private entities and with plant linkage in eight-hour work days. Their remuneration varied between one and two million pesos, invested in education, vehicle quota, leasing, food and public services, among others. They usually attend medical consultations induced by the disease. The causes of morbidity were, in order, respiratory affections, acid peptic disease, postural diseases and depression. Self-medication is present in most of the respondents, especially to search for anagemia. The sleep was pleasant but not recovery, and consumption of red as a non-protective habit showed a significant increase. In terms of psychological and emotional aspects, respondents have a positive perception of their image with the presence of positive feelings, although they consider that there is very little state and business support for the use of said professional. With regard to the question about the meaning of life, for a little more than half of the respondents, the word welfare was included, at the physical, economic, emotional, social, labor and health levels. The way in which work influences the quality of life included positive and negative responses such as little free time, inability to share with the family, long and routine work hours, and exhaustion. They also considered that it is a good field of work, it is learned, it motivates you, it generates a salary and it is productive.
