Abstract

The care of patients infected with HIV creates feelings of help and / or rejection, especially in high-risk procedures such as hemodialysis, where blood is handled. Greater care and strict compliance with biosafety regulations is required. The study describes the experience of the feelings that are generated in a nurse when caring for a patient with HIV in this procedure. To achieve a description as perceived by the caregivers, the phenomenological approach was used, through the application of structured interviews in depth. The management of the data was guided by the Colaizzi guideline, from which six categories emerged in relation to feelings. During the research literature was revised for the optimal construction of the subject. Feelings are multidimensional phenomena, subjective states, that make us feel in a particular way. The experience of caring for a patient with VIII in a hemodialysis unit generates positive and negative feelings in the nurses; the latter have greater intensity than the former.
