Abstract

The main objective of this research was to identify the presence of alterations in personality, mood (depression), attention and memory in 20 epileptic patients, whose ages ranged between 18 and 40 years. This evaluation was carried out using the MMPI abbreviated multidimensional scale (minimult) for personality, the Beck depression inventory (BDI) for depression, the trail making test (TMT) for the attention level and the Weschler memory scale (WMS- III) for memory. The results obtained show absence of clinically significant alterations of the evaluated dimensions. The implications of this research are presented in the discussion. Abbreviations: EPI, epilepsy; DEP, depression; minimult, abbreviated multidimensional scale of the MMPI; BDI, Beck's depression inventory; TMT, trail making test; WMS-III, Weschler's memory scale.
