The use of mechanical sutures in the gastrointestinal tract has caused a great change in the surgical technique, as the operative time and the contamination of the abdominal cavity decrease markedly. However, the smelanic media that facilitate certain surgical procedures should not replace teaching the meticulous technique of gastrointestinal surgery in the teaching field, as this is the basis of optimal preparation for the correct application of the former.
