Abstract

Endometrial carcinoma has become the most frequent malignant lesion of the uterine body. 34,000 new cases are presented annually, of which 6,000 cause deaths, which makes it the seventh cause of death in women; It is more aggressive with increasing age. This is how the idea of ​​conducting a careful study with endometrial cytology of direct taking, which allows to investigate and diagnose hormonal, premalignant and malignant lesions of the endometrium, and promotes endometrial cytology of direct intake as a screening method to be used with greater Frequency in Colombia. Also, demonstrate that the interpretation of endometrial cytology has results as satisfactory as those of the biopsy and can be performed by cytohistotechnologists with adequate training. 133 cases of the National Institute of Cancerology (1999-2000) were studied, of which only 123 were suitable for reading. All of them underwent a cytological and histological study, with 94% of benign results, 4.9% of premalignant results, and 0.8% of malignancy in cytology. Of these cases, 88% correlated with the results of the biopsy.
