Abstract

Objective: to evaluate the quality of the sample processed in liquid medium compared to the conventional method.
Methods: a descriptive observational analysis was carried out in which 32 cervical vaginal cytologies (CCV) were studied of patients who attended the campaign carried out in the Fundafidro institution, on June 24, 2003; the samples were processed in a conventional manner, the brushes and spatulas used for the taking were taken to the liquid medium to obtain 32 additional samples, which were processed in double sheets, each with a cell button obtained by means of the Cytospin of the National Institute of Cancerology (INC).
Results: 40 CCV were taken, of which 32 met the inclusion criteria, in which the cytodiagnosis was performed independently for each of the techniques.
Conclusions: it is demonstrated that the cytological method in liquid medium improves the quality of the sample, but it is limited to the results obtained when processing the sample left over from the spread. There is a need to carry out complementary studies that put into practice the corrections described.
