Abstract

The present study sought to determine the percentage frequency that exists in the expression for hormonal receptors of progestins and estrogens according to the degree of histological differentiation of mammary gland carcinoma (GM). We reviewed 56 patients with cancer of GM in the Hospital of San José in the period between January 1 of 2004 to January 31 of 2006, who in the biopsy were practiced immunohistochemical analysis for estrogen and progestin receptors. The information was collected in a database and analyzed in the statistical program EN INFO 6.0. Of the 56 cases studied, 16 were diagnosed as grade 1 (28.6%), 26 grade 2 (46.4%) and 14 grade 3 (25%). Of the total number of cases marked for estrogen receptors, 40 expressed positive and for progestagens 36. This study demonstrated that the frequency of positivity percentage for estrogen and progestogen receptors is related to the degree of histological differentiation of the tumor. Abbreviations: GM, mammary gland.
