Abstract

The early identification of cutaneous pathologies in the neonate is of the utmost importance. Its timely management determines morbidity and mortality and ensures a better functional and vital prognosis. We conducted a descriptive cross-sectional study in which 24 neonates hospitalized in intensive care at the Hospital of San José were included. After 72 hours of stay, a dermatology and pediatric evaluation was carried out to establish the type of skin condition present at that time. An average age of 4.5 days, gestational age 32.3 weeks and weight of 1,596 grams was found. We identified 75% of primary and secondary dermatological manifestations, and 4% of tertiary ones. Each variable included in our study was related to the dermatological manifestations present. Abbreviations: NICU, neonatal intensive care unit.
