Abstract

Retrospective descriptive study performed at the peripheral vascular surgery service of the Hospital of San José de Bogotá D.C. Colombia, in a period of six years. We found 21 patients diagnosed with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm, which were divided into two groups, one contained and the other not contained. The main cause of mortality was hypovolemic shock, followed by multi-system failure state. The most common causes of morbidity were acute myocardial infarction and adult respiratory distress syndrome. The overall mortality rate was 57.14%. Abbreviations: AAAR, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm; AAARC, abdominal aortic aneurysm ruptured content; AAARNC, broken abdominal aortic aneurysm not contained; AMI, acute myocardial infarction; ARDS, adult respiratory distress syndrome.
